Today's the day

Today's the day!  I leave in just a few short hours.  Bags are packed and ready to go.  Of course the weather just gott horrible again.  I hope that I can get out of KCI now.  My puppy is sad, I think she knows I am leaving for awhile.  I'm going to miss her a lot.  Well, its time to shower up and head out.  I hope everyone enjoys their New Years and I'll see you all soon.

Almost there

Here we are, just 11 days away from the trip starting.  I'm so excited that it's almost time.  Of course I'm mortified as well, but yeah I am so excited. I made it through all my classes, and am officially a 7th semester nursing student now, which in and of itself is pretty exciting.  I'm 32 weeks from having my BSN at this point. That's only 26 weeks of class.  The time is going to go by so fast.  I can't wait for that time to come, and I know that this trip is just one more aspect of getting me through to that point.
Enjoy your holidays, and hopefully you will all start leaving me some comments soon.  If we have internet when we get there, I will try to do video blogs rather than typing while I am there.

Last immunization

Started the typhoid meds today...  Next Friday I will be completely immunized for the trip!  Sent off my application for my visa yesterday, and got some more financial aid to help.  Down to just a few more days to go.  27 days until we leave.

New information.

On Monday, we got our flight information. So that's a big move in the right direction!  I have about an hour layover on the way there, but on the way home I have a 9 hour layover in DC!!! So all of my DC or DC nearby friends, come get me and let's go do some stuff while I am stuck there.  I land at 9 AM and don't leave until 6PM so let's have some fun!!
I start my typhoid medication today as soon as I get home from classes.  I also have my visa application ready to be turned in today, and a request for increased financial aid is going to be turned in today as well, they told me they'll give me more money to help pay for this trip when I was in there yesterday, so looking forward to that.  I will need to get my financial aid set up to be direct deposited though so that it will just move into my account without me having to worry about it.

I don't really have anything else to update, so I am going to sign off for now.  Leave me some comments if there's anyone out there who's reading this.

Still don't know

Here we are another Monday here and past, but I don't know when my flights are.  I hope they tell us soon, my parents especially are really getting upset that they don't know.  It'd be great to know for myself, but yeah, they are getting really heavy leaning on me for information.

The waiting game...

Just thought I'd put up a new post since it's been awhile.  Still no new information, I'm supposed to find out my flight itinerary on Monday, but we know I've heard that before.  Not much to report right now, will update as soon as I know my flights.

Waiting...

So we are getting closer and closer, but so far, I still don't know my flights.  I can't wait to find out more about when and where I am flying through.  I got on google maps last night and the sights are pretty cool.  I can't wait!

A minor pain in the .... Arm?

So, everyone knows I wrote about getting my immunizations before.  Well, one of them has been being a problem.  My Menactra is swollen, red, and ITCHY. I have had it since last Thursday, and it just will not quit itching and its so sore.  I wish this would end and it would get better.  I should be finding out about my flights soon, I hope we do.  At that point it will really seem real.

Another little set back that I got, is that I didn't get a scholarship for the trip.  This whole thing out of my pocket.  I am so counting down the days until I have a real job and won't be so worried about money all the time.  Oh well, still ready for Ghana, and can't wait!

Orientation

Today was orientation day, I was there in the FREEZING cold November morning at 9 AM to hear about study abroad in general.  It was a cool meeting, I got to hear all sorts of stories from other people who have been before, and kind of want to go hike the Inca trail now...  Maybe I'll save that for my next trip :-P.  The days are counting down, and I am getting closer and closer.  We find out our flights on Monday, so pretty excited for that!  That's all for now, I'd love to hear if anyone is reading this, so please comment if you are!

The First Preparations

So I know I just made the first post, but I thought I'd go ahead and make the post of what's been done already as well.
So far I have:
Gotten my passport.
Turned in my acceptance and waivers.
Filed my placement information with Pro-World.
Filed my flight requests.
Started my vaccinations.  I've gotten 5 in the last week and still have one more to go.  I might be like a pin cushion right now, but at least I won't get deathly sick over there.

That's all for now.  I'll find out about my flights on Monday, so look for another post then!

PS, I know the ads are annoying, but I'm trying to get some money from them to offset the trip.  Feel free, but not obligated ;-) to click on as many as you'd like!

Starting my preparations

Hello everyone in cyber space!
I started this blog and will keep it going at least until my trip is complete as a way for me to show my prep and travel to Ghana this winter.  I leave December 31, 2010, and return January 16, 2011.  I'm going over there as part of an intersession Study Abroad trip with the MU Sinclair School of Nursing.  We will be working with Pro-World International.  At this point, I don't know what my assignment is going to be, or even my flight information, but those updates will be arriving in the next couple of weeks.

I can't wait for this trip, no matter how scared my family is for me to be going.  I know its going to be amazing!  I'm going to update this periodically before I go as new information becomes available, and then I will do my best to update it daily while I am in Africa.
